Remembering My Father

Dad's 90th Birthday 2007

July 15, 1917-July 9, 2010

"There is a brokenness out of which comes the unbroken,
a shatteredness out of which blooms the unshatterable.
There is a sorrow beyond all grief that leads to joy
and a fragility out of whose depths emerges strength.

There is a hollow space
too vast for words
through which we pass with each loss,
out of whose darkness
we are sanctioned into being.
There is a cry deeper than all sound
whose serrated edges cut the heart
as we break open to the place inside
which is unbreakable and whole,
while learning to sing."-Rashani

On Death, the poet Kahlil Gibran writes:
"For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."

I imagine your father's spirit dancing with God and trust that one day your own spirit will be dancing again with his. My prayers and heart-hugs are with you today, dear Barb, as you honour your father.

Just another wonderful thoughtful quote. It's evident your dad meant much to you and that you share his zest.
