Very excited for a mini road trip with my sister Jocelyn and brother in law Vicente. Going to Palm Springs for a family and old friends reunion. In another lifetime in the late 1960’s I co-owned a shop in what is now Old Town Pasadena with my cousin Pati (she lives in Vermont now)and my friends Holly and Jack. It was a hippie shop and literally in the basement of an antique store and a Masonic temple. It was called “The Catacombs and our shop was “The Everyday Cartoon”. We sewed butterfly love-in type dresses, strung love bead necklaces and handmade jewelry along with other hippie stuff. Another shop in the catacombs was owned/rented closet space where two senior high school boys Barry and Mike would run a handmade leather goods store after their classes ended each day. This was an adventure my parents indulged and co signed the lease with a promise that I would go back to college at years end. That year 1967-68 created unforgettable memories. It was a year of total freedom and wild adventures. After that time I started UCLA and Mike the other store owned started UC Santa Barbara. He later entered UCLA and became an architect. We maintained our friendships and are life long friends but have not seen each other in a decade or more . So fast forward to tomorrow. We are making our way to Palm Springs to visit cousin Pati and her husband who are vacationing there. We are meeting up with Mike who lives there. What a great reunion this will be.
