"We lose ourselves in the things we love.
We find ourselves there too."
early February 1975
I remember this day and how it was just happenstance that we took this picture. I'm so glad we set up my little camera to capture this moment when we hardly knew each other. This was the beginning of a long and happy adventure.
We've been together for 48 years. Mike had just turned 21 when he started grad school at UCLA in the fall of 1974. I had just started working full time as the Academic Graduate Counselor in the Physics department.
Some history: In the spring of 1974 Mike had been waiting until the last minute to hear from UCLA. The day he mailed in his acceptance to the University of Maryland he came home to find an offer of the Chancellor's Fellowship to UCLA. At the time this was the most prestigious Fellowship the department offered. Mike called to offer his thanks but said he had just accepted an offer from another school. The professor he spoke to said it was not too late to decline that offer and accept the one from UCLA. And that is what he did. I often wonder what would have happened had he gone to Maryland. My daughter Athena says what is meant to be will happen and that I would have met Mike somehow elsewhere. I like to think she is right but am glad our destiny was sealed when he came to UCLA.
Some pictures through the last 48 years:
Me on the steps of my La Grange avenue apartment. This was just south of the Mormon Temple on Little Santa Monica blvd. Mike had an apartment a few blocks away.
Our wedding shower at my aunt Mabel and Uncle Renso's home in Whittier. 1981.
Aria was born in 1984.
Athena was born in 1988.
Time marches on. Both girls grew up, graduated from college, met the love of their lives, married and started their families.

Our adventures together continued...
We've weathered the challenges and we made it to the other side.
Still in all we manage to find laughter and joy in sharing this life together.
Happy to have found a deeper part of ourselves in each other.
PS Did I mention he completes me?
42 years and like the energizer bunny, we keep on going.
Happy 42nd Anniversary to us!
