I recently discovered a very cute instagram account by a young woman named Georgia. "itslikethestate". She does a cute Outfit Of The Day with her very cool dad Jeff Yokoyama who owns a shop called "Yoki Shop" in Newport Beach California. Today I'm going to visit the shop for the first time. Looking forward to this adventure.
Today was a fun adventure. My friend Sherri and I drove to Newport Beach and visited this great shop Ive been wanting to go to called “Yoki shop” owned by Jeff Yokoyama aka. “Yoki”.
Here’s a bit of info about this fun creative force: In 1980, he created and co-founded Maui & Sons, designing fashions for the local surf culture, and began selling it directly to local surfer and kids on beaches and in schools, which changed the rules of the game overnight. The operation moved from the trunk of his car into a multi-million dollar business in a matter of months. Today, Maui & Sons can be found in over 100 countries. Today, Yoki continues to reinvent his design talents by making one-off clothes out of leftover materials in his small shop in Newport Beach, California. Besides being a designer with an amazing imagination he is such a charming cool guy. We had so much fun chatting about design, & his projects with the community. He is super fun to talk with. His shop is filled with repurposed fun clothing items. . There is a reason and a story behind all of the goods they collect, show, display and sell. It is a place where shopping is not the only objective. It is a shop where just looking and being inspired is encouraged.
