Devastating Fires Raging Over Los Angeles Areas

As so many have lost their homes and are seeking shelter the news continues to show the devastation since Wednesday. Here is what my friend Maggie has written:

“Go bag” is packed though we are safe. The fires are further north and east, surrounding our little splotch of white on the map, but the air smacks of carbon and ash covers the porch. Family has suffered immense loss, and friends too. All are personally safe. We have some staying with us. The devastation is incomprehensible, as is the courage of the LAFD and of those who have lost who are helping each other and holding up faith.
I fell in love with this this place when I moved here 35 years ago, lured by my beloved sister.    The beach, the mountains, the spaciousness, the air spiked with lavender and wild garlic and fennel, bobbing in crystalline ocean and drinking the sparkling air, driving with the windows down along the winding jewel of PCH. Before I met my husband, I partnered with this place that healed me when in my mid twenties I needed it most, and just kept going.
I love you so much L.A. for all you’ve given me. I stand with you, your grit and salsa, glow and glamour, now and always.
At my garden today, the air was soft and the little broccoli plantings I just put in were standing strong inside their upright shelters. Next Spring’s cosmos were sprouting, not planted but self sown, and the massive golden bowl of sun reflected by fire dropped into the ocean on the horizon.
So heartbroken for the loss to those I love and don’t know who have suffered these days and have such hard times and grief ahead. But California is a gorgeous land of dreams, regenerative, and a world power. We will survive and thrive again."
