DInner at Mary's

On Friday August 4th Mary and I returned from our day out and got ready for her family to arrive at 6 PM for dinner.  It was a great evening of fun.

I loved seeing everyone again and meeting the children of Mary's niece.
Mary's husband, David kept them entertained all night.

I learned a lot about making bread from Keiji. He made us wonderful loaves of sourdough bread.

Thanks to Mary for inviting me to join in on such great family fun.

A Fun Day in Pasadena

Last Friday after an afternoon of museum viewing Mary and I went shopping. First we made a stop at Koi on Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena.

They were having a great sale

We met up with Mary's daughter in law and grand-daughter

Then we walked to nearby Mission street where there are several great stores.

If you are in this area do check out the classic drug store on the corner of Fair Oaks and Mission.

Love this dress store Rue de Mimo

It was a very hot August day in Pasadena. By late afternoon we headed home to get ready for Mary's dinner guests.  Tomorrow I will blog about our fun time with Mary's family.

Food for the Soul

Last Friday was another hot day in Southern California.  I drove to Pasadena to spend the day with my friend Mary.  We visited the Pasadena Museum of California Art* for a wonderful exhbiit of works by the Hungarian Portrait and genre scene painter Joseph Kleitsch (1882-1931).  I had no knowledge previously of this wonderful painter and enjoyed his work immensely.

Joseph Kleitsch, portrait and landscape artist. Immigrated to the U.S. from Hungary shortly after the turn of the century.

"Upon his arrival to the U.S. Kleitsch lived in Cincinnati and Denver and made extensive visits to Mexico before settling in Chicago in 1912. He established a studio and launched himself into the art and social mainstream where he was readily accepted. His exceptional capacity to paint realistic portraits filled with the personality, demeanor and essence of each subject established the artist as one of Chicago's most sought after portraits artists."

He was an in house portrait artist for the esteemed Stendahl galleries, then located in the Ambassador hotel in Los Angeles.

Kleitsch moved to the artist haven of Laguna Beach in 1920. He quickly became a leading member of the art colony.

In the twilight of his career Kleitsch focused on painting the bustling downtown streets of Laguna.
