Lisa See "Daughters of the Sun and Moon"

 

 

I received the new Lisa See book “Daughters of the Sun and Moon”on Friday and finished it last night shortly after 2 a.m. The rush to finish was because I was going to hear her speak at the Huntington Beach library yesterday at 4:30. 

 

 

I have had the pleasure of hearing her speak on several occasions. She speaks with such a naturalness it feels like a conversation with a close friend. Like most of her books, this latest one is historical fiction. The novel follows three Chinese women who form an unexpected friendship, relying on one another to survive rampant anti-Chinese racism and systemic oppression in Los Angeles in 1871. 

 

 

 

A really fun late afternoon with my friends  Tracy and  Jo . Afterwards we drove along the beautiful blue Pacific ocean on coast highway.

 

 Dinner at Luna Bistro Cafe.  I’m a huge fan of their smash burger!

Happy 3rd birthday Julian

 

Though Jude and Julian's birthdays are only a week apart Athena planned separate and quite different celebrations. Julian who turned three had a small "Teddy Bear" themed picnic with a handful of buddies.  Athena said he was so happy.  She purposely planned it for Monday while his brother was in school.

 and the "pin the hat on the bear" game. 

 

 

The kids enjoyed  the cute bear books his mom read.  All in all a very sweet 3rd birthday for Julian.

Had a great day at the fund raiser Bento and bingo at the Pasadena Buddhist temple.
