I'm Jigsawed Out

I was really on a jigsaw puzzle roll. Each one had a thousand pieces and each one seemed harder for me than the next.

 I read a quote recently that said "I wanna make a jigsaw puzzle that's 40,000 pieces. And when you finish it, it says, "go outside!"

I don't want that jigsaw puzzle! After doing the above puzzles I told myself to do that very thing.  I'm on a little hiatus now and enjoying these wonderful summer days.

Summer Fun and Games

The other night my friend Lynda hosted a  "fun girls night in".
There were lots of snacks...

 and drinks

 

   Maria (just back from Italy) brought all the necessary ingredients to make the Italian summer drink "Spritz's"

Wonderful friends

 and many rounds of our current favorite game "Mexican Train"

 We still are trying to remember all the rules but I think we are getting better at this. 

 If there is confusion about the rules we have appointed a Sheriff (Sherri) and a Deputy (Jo) to help us keep law and order.
 

 After so many "Spritz's" I got the Sheriff and the Deputy mixed up and called for the "Sheputy"!

 Well that's how we roll in Long Beach on a normally quiet and peaceful street.

Docs' PIe Shop

There's a new pie shop in Seal Beach at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Main street.  Doc's pie shop* had been recommended to me by our good friend John  and when we were out the other day it was a perfect time to visit.  The shop specializes in pies made fresh daily.    

 There is a wonderful assortment of sweet and savory pies with daily specials as well.

The interior of the shop is filled with light and is a very pleasant place to have coffee and dessert with friends.

 Servers are friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about their product.

 This is Eric. He waited on us on two separate visits. He's super nice!

 and here is the owner himself  "Doc James Blake".  We wish his new business venture great success and give a big shout out to this wonderful new Seal Beach addition. His pie shop is a great place and the pies are exceptional.  I have become a big fan of the "Key Lime" pie.  I had to order it on both my visits.

 

Please note there is a beautiful upstairs area with two outdoor patios.  You can enjoy your pie al fresco if you like!

Be sure to try this great new pie shop!  I think you will love it!

 Important to note:  Doc's serve pie by the slice and sell whole pies based on availablity. Once they sell out, that's it for the day.  Whole pies are available with 48 hr. advance notice (2 pie limit).

A Fun Day Out With Our Friend Rob

Our friend Rob was in town for a few days earlier this month. We were able to spend a brief few hours with him before he caught his flight home to San Francisco.  
My cousin Nancy was with Rob and myself for a quick tour of Long Beach. First stop for lunch at Gypsy's on the pier. 

 We visited the "La La Land" El Cordova apartments on 3rd. Street

 and a wonderful Greene and Greene Craftsman style home at 852 E.  Ocean Blvd. "This long structure covers the entire cul-de-sac block of First Place and is known as the Adelaide Tichenor House for its first owner. It was built in 1904 and 1905. One of three homes in Long Beach designed by the famed architect brothers Charles and Henry Greene. This building pioneered the influence of Japanese design and orignally had a japanese garden as well as original furniture completely designed by the architects. (most are gone today). The construction of cliner brick panels built from discolored or misshapen bricks set in wood timbers is unique quoted Stan Poe a local historian and president emeritus of Long Beach Heritage. Tichenor, the home's first owner was an influential civic leader.She founded the Ebell club, the city's public library and the Tichenor Orthopedic clinic."

 We tried the new "Doc's Pie" shop on the corner of PCH and Main street in Seal Beach (I will blog about that separately for more info).

Then home in time for Rob to spend some time with Mike before this flight.
