Not Just About A Book Club Reads "The Midnight Library"

We met at club member Sharon's home today July 22, 2021.

What a refreshing and wonderful opportunity to be together like old times pre-covid.  Under a summer sun we sipped on Spritz's thanks to Jo.

Lots of good food to eat from all the members.

The book we discussed for June/July was "The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.

This story provides the reader with an opportunity to visit "The Midnight Library" along with Nora the protagonist who has experienced a rough patch in her depression prone life. Having attempted suicide she is suspended in a limbo like state where she has a chance to visit a library housing her book of "regrets".  This library also houses many books which contain the paths she regretted not taking and shows her the outcomes of those lives missed. She is given the opportunity to enter and choose whether to stay in a different life's path.  The Midnight Library gives the reader a platform for reflection as well.   The protagonist's adventures in to  various books about possible choices she could have made in her life provided in depth conversations for our book group. A thoroughly memorable book club meeting.

Thank you to our hostess Sharon for providing a lovely atmosphere in which to meet.

“Between Life and Death there is a Library,” she said. “And within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices.”

Cheers to a happy and healthy summer for all.
