I was so sad to hear that Peter Max, the iconic artist of the 60’s passed away today. Peter Max, whose colorful, psychedelic pop art expressed the optimism of the “flower power” movement of the 1960s and graced everything from postage stamps to a cruise ship, to colorful posters with peace signs glowing psychedelic rainbows with flowers. As an art student at UCLA in the late 1960’s there were many opportunities to encounter well known personalities. I was able to attend a small lecture by Peter Max at the rec center. He was captivating and magical just like his art. I spoke to him after his talk. Speaking to him one on one was incredibly special and memorable. He was so genuine and personal. He embodied grace and kindness. I will never forget how focused he was on our few minutes encounter and I believe that is the kind of attention he gave to any individual he shared time and space with. I include some quotes from Peter Max. I’m convinced his time on earth was to spread joy through his creativity. He accomplished that mission. I know he is off to spread more light and love on his next magical mystery tour. Thank you Peter Max.
