"The summer night was settling upon the neighborhood like a dark lace
veil, casting dappled shadows on the roofs and sidewalks and lawns."
―Victoria Kahler, Luisa Across the Bay
For many Monday nights there are three people in my world that I know who watch "The Bachelorette": My sister Jocelyn my friend Sherri
and myself. We three admit it's a crazy reality show but we are sucked
into looking forward to it every season. Tonight Sherri and I
rendezvoused for the season finale. It was a great night with
champagne, our very own rose ceremony, & special guest appearance
(our friend Maria
stopped by to observe our obsession and shared some chocolate cake and
laughs). Sometimes with all the absurdities in life it is just about
getting into something ridiculous and embracing it! Tonight was one of
those times. Thanks Sherri for being my partner in viewing "The
Bachelorette". Will you please accept this rose?"
Tyler the one she didn't choose but in the end may be dating.
The 60th Anniversary of Obon at the Higashi temple. A great celebration.
At the plants , flowers, sale I was able to buy sweet peas the flower
that reminds me of my dad. Great food and we played bingo too! Fun with
our friends Mary and David and my sister in law Barb.
On Sunday in Little Tokyo we wandered into a really cool new donut shop
that opened about 6 months ago. It is called Donatsu" . I was looking at
all the flavors but didn't see one that I happen to also like so in
asking many questions about the shop I also asked the young salesgirl
"Do you also have Maple Bacon donuts?" She smiled and said ""We only
sell Vegan donuts." Look at the one called "The Royal Dragon". It was
the most beautiful donut!
Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an
inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of
times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you
remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so
deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life
without it? Perhaps four, five times more, perhaps not even that. How
many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps 20. And yet
it all seems limitless. -- Paul Bowles
Mike was up before the crack of dawn taking off the old seals of the
fridge and putting on the new ones. Obviously I was up too as I
photographed this last step. We plugged the fridge and it's been cooling
ever since. At 8:30 a.m. we took off for the beach to relax and read.
Surfers were out and the beach was serene and quiet with waves that were
not huge. Our reading matter differs greatly. The cover of his book
says; "The best overview of privacy and security ever written." My
cover "A testament to the idea that the things we say matter, that our
words have the power to comfort and uplift empower and inspire." We're
polar opposites in many ways.
“One never took the time to
savour the details; one said: another day, but always with the hidden
knowledge that each day was unique and fatal, that there never would be a
return, another time.”
I believe in love and kindness, family first, deep meaningful friendships, counting one's blessings and giving to others what you yourself need. I strive to see life as a glass half full. I am very grateful for the life I have and all the wonderful people that make this grand adventure so worthwhile.
