My little Italian festa potluck today was great. My teacher brought a movie for us to watch after lunch “The Disappearance of my Mother.” We all said it was an interesting film and a good one for comprehension practice. The leads ,a mother and son, spoke clearly and slowly and were not speaking in dialect. Description of film below:
The Disappearance of My Mother (Italian: Storia di B. - La scomparsa di mia madre) is a 2019 Italian documentary directed by Beniamino Barrese about his mother, Benedetta Barzini, a renowned 1960s fashion model and feminist professor who wants to escape the world of images and disappear.
We enjoyed wonderful muffaletto sandwiches by our hostess, that rivaled the Central Market in NOLA and a delicious shrimp salad and a variety of nice cheeses.
We had a good laugh about my wax paper fiasco with the apple tart and in the end it tasted fine.
The apple tart was hard to pry off the cookie sheet because I used wax paper instead of parchment paper. *We also had a discussion of what we use wax paper for. That sparked a childhood memory when someone said “we used it to wrap our lunchbox sandwiches in wax paper!
A fun day with Luisa, Judy and Isa.
*A funny not so funny thing I did. I baked another rustic apple tart this morning for this luncheon pot luck today. My trial for this recipe was successful earlier in the week. This morning when I took the tart out of the oven it looked just like the other day but it had dripped around the parchment paper underneath and it was stuck when I tried to remove it from the baking pan. It was a big struggle. The result is kinda a mess. Hoping it will taste good anyway. Below today’s flop and the other … beginners luck!
Omg! I just figured out what I did wrong. In posting this I had a thought as to why the tart stuck so bad to the bottom. I just checked and I mistakenly used wax paper instead of parchment paper! What a stupid mistake!
The apple tart was supposed to look like this:
